Emerwyn grew up in an agricultural environment. Her family lived off of the land they worked, and the money they earned from selling their goods. The money was decent, but very, very rare. There wasn't much of a demand for home grown produce. It took too long. Emerwyn loved it, spending every day in the outdoors, helping her father work, or reading beneath a tree. Her life was blessed, completely ignorant of the horrors of the world outside.
Though her parents were loving, the one who truly raised Emerwyn was her Great Aunt Imogen. Aunt Imogen home-schooled Emerwyn, teaching her how to speak, to read, about the sciences (what little she knew), and about art. Imogen also taught Emerwyn of the legends of their family. That they had roots leading all the way back to Terra, in the Old Times. The ancient kingdom of England. Imogen also taught Emerwyn how to truly appreciate the world around her. That all life, no matter what form it takes, is sacred and needs to be treated as such. Emerwyn took all of Imogen's lessons to heart, striving not only to follow them, but to understand them, and what they meant to her.
Emerwyn truly lived a blissful life. Then, when she was sixteen, her father started to drink. He grew depressed, and frustrated with his life. He would go into a rage, claiming he wanted more money, more things, women to be attracted to him... Finally, just after Emerwyn's eighteenth birthday, he packed some belongings, took the family's savings, and left the planet. Emerwyn noticed that her mother didn't seem too phased by it. In fact, she seemed to brighten, and became even more productive than ever. This upset Emerwyn more than anything else. The fact that their love had fallen apart, and possibly had never even existed, destroyed a piece of her. It tainted the perfectly pure spirit, and opened her eyes to the darkness that existed in the world. The darkness that she was always only slightly aware of, in the deepest corners of her heart.
Imogen died when Emerwyn was twenty-two. It was then that she decided to leave home. In the four years since her father left, Emerwyn began to study the world outside her own. She studied the governments, the politics, the violence, the corruption. She studied technology, about ships and flying. Imogen was ever supportive of Emerwyn's endeavors, and even helped her, up until her death. Emerwyn only decided to leave once she was certain that her mother was taken care of. Her mother had been seeing a gentleman for a while before Imogen died, and he had just finished moving in when Emerwyn announced that she was leaving. Once again, her mother wasn't phased. She'd seen it coming.
Emerwyn started off just traveling, seeing the places she'd read about. She bartered passage on several ships, also learning about them. She met a man who was called Rusty on one such journey, and he taught her how to pilot a ship. He was eccentric, and had very strong political views. It wasn't long before Emerwyn discovered that Rusty was a pirate; or, more accurately, a professional thief. But he also like shaking things up in the government, where he could. He had a couple of companions who followed the same code, but they were vastly disorganized. Emerwyn became inspired, and saw this as an open door to do that which she'd dreamed. Even if it was more than slightly illegal.
Rusty (whose name, we now learned, was Oliver Davison) and Emerwyn gathered more followers, under the promise of not only a reasonable haul, but the chance to hinder the governments who had made their lives so difficult. Using Rusty's small vessel at first, they were able to acquire scrap parts taken from old battlefields, and more purchased on the black market. What they wound up with, after months of hard work and preparation, were three frigates, two Ares class, and one Helios class ship. The Helios became her mothership, Spring's Endeavor, of which she was immediately named Captain. She and Rusty (and their friend, Brown Clover), were a tight team, but all of the crew viewed Emerwyn as the ultimate symbol of hope for their cause.
The crew were well-organized and vigorous, and they soon became infamous, particularly in the Terran territory. The Terrans were their main targets, the Legaue being what Emerwyn called 'a decent people.' Most of the crew were themselves League, and the Terran mates were only that much more vicious. By the time Emerwyn was twenty-four, they had caused much turmoil in the lower sections of the Terran government, and had earned the attention of one particular Colonel – Gregorie Petrovich Harkov.
At this same time, Emerwyn gained a new crew member, the first new one in over a year. His name was William Delancey, or Bill, as he would be known. He was quiet, firm and steadfast, and soon became very close with Emerwyn. So close, that he became the new first mate on Spring's Endeavor. It quickly became rumored that the two were already sharing something more than a tight partnership. It disappointed many of the men, too, who had running bets going on who could get into Captain Achenson's bed.
But the relationship, should it even have started, never had a chance to bloom. When Emerwyn was now twenty-six, they embarked on a highly dangerous mission. Flying into Terran space to intercept a freighter carrying vast amounts of munitions, and strip it of its dangerous cargo, using only Spring's Endeavor, to detract attention. They had never tried anything so ambitious, and with Gregorie still on her tail for two years, it was a gutsy move. But Emerwyn was determined, for it would be the largest blow they'd have landed on the Terrans yet. It was going well, and they took the Terrans completely by surprise. But, before they could board, they were ambushed by five fighters, led by Gregorie himself. The tables were turned, and Spring's Endeavor was boarded, and a fire fight broke out. There were no casualties, but several of Emerwyn's men were badly injured. Then, Gregorie entered the fray, and took William down with a single shot. In a shocked passion, Emerwyn was enraged, and drew her sword, running at Gregorie. Three men stood in her way, and she cut them all down mercilessly. This would be the third time she and Gregorie stood face to face, and the first time one of them left injured. She left a great gash on Gregorie's arm, but he was no fool. He called off the attack, and they returned to their ships, leaving Emerwyn, crumpled on the floor, and the remaining crew almost too frightened to move.
Emerwyn did not take her crew on another mission. She blamed herself for William's death, and hated herself for killing the Terran soldiers. It would be a long road to redemption, and Emerwyn was not even prepared to begin.
Emerwyn is an extremely compitent pilot and starship captain. Other than that, she is just a regular human.
Emerwyn is soft-spoken and gentle, the antithesis of everything that surrounds her. She does all she can to accept everyone, no matter their sins or transgressions. Everyone deserves a chance for redemption. However, she is also very sensitive, especially to others' emotions. Though she always fights hard to hide it, often rather effectively, it is very easy to injure her emotionally. Her feelings must always be set aside when there is a more important objective at hand, and there almost always is.
On the other hand, Emerwyn is very strong-willed and determined, sometimes to the point of stubbornness. She's viewed as foolish and naïve when standing up for herself, or someone else. For she will step, or rather run, into danger sometimes without thinking when her emotions get the best of her.
The most important thing to Emerwyn is the importance and power of life, in all of its forms. It is her goal and passion to help revive the awarness of its value in what she calls 'the dying worlds.'
Emerwyn is one of the only people left in the galaxy whose voice still carries a strong English accent. She inherited it from her Great Aunt, who was the one who schooled her growing up. Arguably, she even raised Emerwyn. It's a hindrance at times, for it makes her very noticable.
She also carries a hand-crafted rapier. Shortly after she left her home, she sought out a man who still practiced blacksmithing. Emerwyn now carries it with her at all times, and even uses it as a non-lethal weapon, when she cannot guarantee that her pistol will leave her oponent breathing.
