Navigating the minefield of copyright and rights, and everything is not something I feel rather adept at. Hopefully there will never be an issue, but I decided I wanted to put in place something, to try and make my intentions understandable and get some legal protections.
My intent is to build a sharable, open world that people can enjoy and love, however, I can still make commercial projects with, publish books in, etc. I still want to retain overall control of my characters and the main universe, but I cede control to the periphery; I don't own (or care) about your random self-insert character Hermonine Raven Bloodstorm Lucille Way, who is a Half-Lyndri, Half-Vampire, Half-NorAellian and too dark and brooding to be understood. Have a ball, my brother/sister/person.
These licenses are an attempt to protect all of us, without limiting any of us. If you want to publish a book in this universe? Contact Me. As long as it's not using any named character, and isn't messing with anything I'm working on, I'll probably say yes. (I have to require this, unfortunately. If, for no other reason, you do accidentally use something someone else owns; they gotta know.)
Want to do something for yourself, or publish for free? Guess what, just comply with the attributions and you don't even need my permission!
All contributions are licensed under the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license (see below). All authors/contributors retain their copyrights.
As it is hard to imagine any works that do not include material copyrighted and owned by the orginal author, the orginal author is the default contact point for gathering licenses.
All Copyright Owners must grant additional permissions for all covered works, if additional permissions are requested.
This is a CC BY-NC-SA requirement. I would have made myself automatically designated as the Licensor for contributions, if I could, but it seems Creative Commons removed that. Instead, I'll play email contact. This is less about ownership and more about making sure large projects based off the content on this wiki are commercially possible. I don't want a Netflix deal to fall through, you know?
In addition to all of the above, the following clause/term is added:
In the event of my death, I, Christopher S. Case do hereby grant all of my works on this wiki (and only only this wiki) to the Public Domain.
This clause is revocable up until my death. It shall be considered to be in effect as long as it appears on this page.
