Prometheus Station is a mobile shipyard under the command of Fleet Admiral McKenzie and serves as his primary command post. Unique among League stations, it can travel through subspace, allowing it to relocate as strategic situations require. The station serves as the headquarters for League Naval Intelligence fleet operations and has been used for meetings of the Joint Chiefs.
Prometheus Station was constructed by incorporating whole sections of the original black site shipyard used during The Archigos Experiment. When the experiment concluded, rather than abandon the facility, McKenzie had it expanded and converted into a mobile command platform. The original shipyard became what is now known as "The Gallery," preserving equipment and infrastructure dating back to before the class entered production.
The primary docking and repair facility, capable of servicing multiple capital ships simultaneously. The yard operates on a four-shift cycle and maintains the equipment and expertise to handle the most complex repairs in the fleet.
A permanently reserved docking bay kept open at all times. Station personnel are instructed never to upgrade it, performing only basic maintenance. The bay's purpose and reservation status are not discussed openly, though it is sometimes referred to with a "Reserved - VIP" designation that station command does not appreciate being joked about.
The Gallery is a massive internal volume accessible through an unassuming hallway on the station's middle deck. Originally the black site shipyard from The Archigos Experiment, it has been preserved largely unchanged since those days.
The space is enormous — easily capable of docking multiple super-dreadnoughts — and contains multiple levels of interconnecting catwalks above cargo container-like sections. Unlike the main yard, the Gallery is often pressurized and maintains its own artificial gravity, though the deck plating vibrates noticeably, compensating for lack of tuning with raw power.
The yard engineers privately call it "The Morgue." It houses ships that have "somehow failed" in ways that McKenzie took personally — vessels too dangerous to fly but too valuable (or too strange) to simply destroy. Everything in the Gallery has a history with the admiral.
The Gallery's most infamous residents are the three Archigos class destroyers known as the "Gorgon sisters":
The sisters have collectively killed over a thousand League officers. They appear calmer when housed near each other, but attempts to fly them — even together — have ended in disaster. McKenzie's attempt to "dilute" the [Medusa][]'s problems by swapping parts between the three ships only spread the contamination to all three vessels.
Station personnel are warned never to enter the Gallery alone, never to pull parts from the sisters, and to always inform someone before venturing into that section.
The Gallery houses the only constructors capable of producing authentic Archigos class parts. These pre-IW4 machines were salvaged as surplus and incorporated into the original black site. They are the same constructors used to build the prototype LXS Archigos.
The constructors are antiquated and temperamental — actuators need monthly servicing, bearings seize easily, and control systems were programmed by the lowest bidder. However, they produce parts that actually work, unlike standard yard constructors that have been fed McKenzie's "poisoned" plans.
A fourth constructor was moved into the LSS Medusa's cargo bay as part of McKenzie's attempts to understand what was wrong with her. It remains there, as any attempt to remove it results in "something exploding or depressurizing." The [Medusa][] considers it hers.
Prometheus attracts a particular type of officer — those McKenzie has personally identified as capable of handling the station's unique challenges. Many refer to themselves informally as "McKenzie officers" or joke about the admiral's "cult of personality."
Key positions include:
Among the old guard, there's a saying about earning your place on Prometheus: "The station's the rock, you're Prometheus, the old man is Zeus, and your pride's the eagle. You want your ring of iron, you gotta earn it in no one else's eyes but his."
Prometheus serves as the critical maintenance hub for the Archigos class destroyers. Due to McKenzie's security measures around the class's technical specifications, authentic replacement parts can only be produced at Prometheus (or the classified Anchorage facility). This creates a deliberate bottleneck that ensures all Archie-class ships must eventually return to McKenzie's oversight for major repairs.
