From Matt:
This is a utility ship to the core. While technically capable of independent normal space flight, and with enough reactor power available to move at a fairly low subspace band for its size, it's still wildly inefficient to make anything but in-system subspace trips alone. Instead, 20 of these at a time are loaded into an Eyrie Hawk mothership which is also capable of hauling massive cargo loads. Containers are loaded onto the 30s, they make their in-system trips, and then return for another load.
Rumor has it that an absolutely insane old miner bought a junked HH30 from a scrap yard, refurbished her systems to stock configuration, and decided to see how long it would take to travel by subspace from Gaelia to Calysto. No word on if he's arrived yet. That isn't unsurprising, since those same rumors say that he didn't have the funds left after the refurb and restock to buy a container of anything, and without a container to add mass, well, to quote an engineer from some old Earth story: "ye cannae change the laws o' physics."
