In much the same way that the League has experimented with Terran sensibilities with some of their ship designs (the Valkyrie class comes to mind), the Republic has experimented with League sensibilities in their own designs.
The Viceroy is one of these, and the one that most resembles a League ship from the outside. Even internally, the Viceroy class was designed to operate with a smaller than normal crew roster and features more automation than most Terran ships.
Considering that the class has never seen a proper refit and that the Terrans have never bothered revisiting the design should tell you everything you need to know about how successful the ship was considered by Republic High Command.
That said, roughly 80% of the original order of Viceroy's remain in service, and they tend to retain their command staff for far longer than other ships. Where some might see that and think of them as a dead end posting, in reality their officers simply enjoy commanding the ships and become accustomed to their ship's particular foibles.
The official downside of the Viceroy design is that Republic shipyards don't really know what to do with them when they come in for work. It has become fairly routine during interbellum periods for Viceroy captains to quietly put in at Terran-friendly (or at least not hostile) indie ship yard in Freelance space and shell out from their operational budgets to get their systems upgraded or repaired.
An unexpected upside to this practice is that this has become a lowkey hearts and minds operation, enough so that High Command has both turned a blind eye and quietly increased the operational budget of Viceroy classes. Stories have circulated in Freelance space of Viceroys, coming or going from an indie yard, actively deterring hostile forces, furthering the good will efforts of these odd ships.
Viceroy captains tend to find a few shipyards that they prefer and frequently exchange yard suggestions with other captains based on the work needing to be done. More often than not, a new Viceroy captain will inherit a list of suggested yards along with the ship itself.
As a result of these unorthodox practices, Viceroys tend to develop both unique profiles and unique quirks. Many reports have emerged of Viceroys employing some truly unexpected manuevers or armaments courtesy of these indie yards. Stories circulate amongst Viceroy crews about the TRS Chancellor and how her port side lifts only carry people up while her starboard lifts only carry people down.
The Viceroy class is a light Cruiser and as such, they are frequently found on solo deployments, most often as system patrol ships. While they lack the firepower or fighter squadrons to repel an invasion or qwell an uprising on their own, they can hold the line against such an event until reinforcements arrive, typically through a sort of guerilla-style long range combat. They're fast enough to evade pursuit, manueverable enough to hide in asteroid fields or get uncomfortably close to moons, and their guns have a shockingly long effective range.
