The merchantman Guns of Brixton was originally commissioned by Sonja Frost, a Terran Republic Colonial Governor who tried to become a crimelord. Her taste in ships and their customizations was inversely proportionate to her ability to manage a criminal enterprise.
Gregorie was dispatched to deal with her on one of his first solo assignments. He saw a benefit to using her as an agent within the criminal element. By that time, she had grown disillusioned with life in the underground. Being an ambitious politician, she recognized Gregorie's offer as one that would keep her close to the halls of power, and make her wealthy in the process. By the time they were finished with negotiations and setting her up properly with some capable underlings (some Republic agents, some criminals), they had also come up with a plan that would ensure that the Republic believed her to be brought to heel, the underworld believed that she had bested the Republic, and everyone involved was happy and soon to be wealthy.
Gregorie believed that he had established a reliable agent within the criminal underworld, secured a separate and invisible source of funding should he need to vanish, and that he had a reliable and useful ally. She would turn out to be more trustworthy than he knew.
As Gregorie flew off in the Guns of Brixton (his as part of the agreement and an easy way to "prove" she had been dealt with), he left behind a child that he wouldn't learn about for a decade, and wouldn't meet until she had nearly graduated from the Republic Naval Academy.
