The LSS Shadrach is the second ship of the Revelation-class. At the time of her launch, opinions were still mixed in regards to the entire class' usefulness to the League. Like her sister ship, upon launch, the Shadrach was deployed to the frontier to act as a sort of roving symbol of League attention.
Where the Revelation was largely held back for jobs deep in the shadows, the Shadrach and her two Mk. 2 Archigos-class destroyers were positioned along the League borders with the Nor'Aellians and the Lyndri. As the Shadrach herself and her two destroyers had been shifted away from McKenzie's original specs for both, he felt no need to keep them hidden away from view, and besides, the adjusted specs still worked perfectly well against non-Grey threats.
This willingness to be a more visible force lead the Shadrach to being tapped by the League State Department (presumably with input from McKenzie) to serve as the flagship on many diplomatic missions into both Nor'Aellian and Lyndri space, so much so that the ship became shockingly well known to both races.
The Nor'Aellians weren't exactly impressed, but they could recognize good ship design when they saw it, though its similarity to Sooni vessels was, at first, unsettling to them. Presumably, some conversations happened through back channels after they first saw her.
To the Lyndri, however, the Shadrach became something of a symbol of hope, as her first captain was a Lyndri and because the peace and economic support from the League went a long way with their entire race.
Throughout her initial, pre-refit history, the Shadrach only had two captains. The first, a Lyndri named Ty'Sii Circean who almost literally clawed her way up the League ranks despite the institutional bias towards humans, was hand-picked by McKenzie, and the second was her chosen successor: Typhen Reese, a bright young man from Kvasir in the Vanir system and coincidentally the captain of the Aglaope for the previous five years.
After 15 years of continuous service on the frontier, the entire class was scheduled for a full refit. For a brief, four month period, all four sister ships were in dry docks adjacent to each other. It was the last time all four would be in the same place in their operational life times.
The refit was a disaster from the drop. Out of the entire class, the Shadrach, arguably, had the easiest time. She was the only one of the four ships that had zero drama associated with the actual refit, but many of the most experienced and decorated of her crew, including Reese, were transferred away during that time and a captain completely foreign to how a Revelation class operates was given command.
For the next several years, this captain, August Frank, proved to be almost incapable of understanding how a Revelation-class Super Dreadnaught operated, and why they were given the missions they were. The first time Captain Frank was bringing the Shadrach in for docking at a standard system station over Olympia, he insisted on doing so as he would have with his previous commands. The result of his needlessly showy attempt at docking was a massive scar on the hull of the Shadrach and a major decompression event for the station. After that, Frank was rarely to be found on the bridge for any docking or undocking operations and after another year, his XO, Melissa Vankerk, who had been with the Shadrach for five years by then and was largely rumored to be the one that should have been tapped for the captain's chair, was more or less in command of most of the day-to-day operations.
The Shadrach was still on active duty at the time of the Fall. Like her surviving sister ship, the Revelation, her being held largely within McKenzie's sphere of influence (choice of captain notwithstanding) meant that there was very little successful infiltration of her crew, as the Zealots genuinely did not see a need. Their near complete co-opting of the Terran Republic navy meant that they felt quite secure in their position after the Fall. Besides, they had made sure that an utter incompetent was placed in the chair, and they assumed that as the captain went, so to would the crew.
Turns out, that doesn't happen with crews hand selected by McKenzie or those under him. When word of the Fall reached the Shadrach, Captain Frank was forcefully relieved of command by the entire staff of officers, including those of the two destroyers and Melissa Vankerk was given brevet command. This promotion was officially ratified by McKenzie once his administration was secure.
The downside of this was that the Shadrach found itself too far away from the human frontlines to have any impact on the Fall or its immediate fallout amongst the human governments. They were, however, able to aid the NorAellian fleet in decisively defending Lyndri space from an attempted assault by a Zealot-controlled Terran fleet.
The upshot was that right when humanity needed them, two fully operational and uncompromised Super Dreadnaughts arrived on the scene to give McKenzie the support he needed. That one of them was almost perfectly designed to destroy the Grey was an added bonus.
Many discussions were had about the viability of refitting the Shadrach and her two Archigos Mk. 2s to original spec. Most likely, this won't happen until there is enough stability in McKenzie's unified government. Until then, the Shadrach is continuing her meritorious service for humanity.
The Shadrach only came into being because 1) we needed names for other Rev-class ships and 2) Matt liked the name Abednego for a ghost ship he needed. Because you don't break up a common set of names if you can avoid it, the names Shadrach and Meshach joined the Rev-class line up. Matt needed another ship to have a bad time in the refit, which fell to the Meshach more or less by happenstance, and that meant that the Shadrach kind of just slid by under the radar. Outside of her service on the frontier and regular diplomatic trips into NorAellian and Lyndri space, there isn't much notable about the Shadrach. She largely just did her job and did it well. This is likely also why the Zealot Sooni didn't meddle with her beyond getting a politely incompetent captain into the chair.
