"She can put enough energy down range to make the laws of physics blush."
— Azikita Leouine, Captain LSS Erebus
The Erebus-class comes equipped with its own logistics cruiser that masquerades as the top of the aft tower. When needed, the Aether-class can undock and perform all the required roles of an independent logistics cruiser.
The Erebus-class fulfills the role that the League was unwilling to allow the Revelation-class to fill. They are the replacement for the aging Freya-class Super Dreadnaught and as such, they hold a position at the center of a fleet formation and thanks to their nearly overwhelming amount of firepower, their center position can also be as the tip of the spear.
The idea behind this ship was to take the "beam-heavy hull tank Odyssey build" I fly in Star Trek Online, and just translate the ship and crew to RFI. However, while the spirit of the ship was maintained (massive tank, heavy hitter, ridiculously over-kill everything) it is definitely not the same ship.
The more 'in-universe' idea behind it was, "What if the League tried to build a Terran ship?". It's a very League approach, but you can see the Terran overkill in most of it's design.
