Freedom Station is the primary military installation in the Calysto System, serving as the operational hub for the League Navy's presence in the capital. While the Joint Chiefs are headquartered at Prometheus Station near the Freelance border, Freedom Station is where the day-to-day military infrastructure of the capital system lives.
Freedom Station is home to First Fleet, the Calysto Home Fleet responsible for defense of the capital and ceremonial duties. It also serves as the headquarters for the Naval Transportation Service (NTS), the spacelift arm of TRANSCOM.
The station is large, but like Corona Astra it can't accommodate a Revelation-class Super Dreadnought on short notice — the sheer bulk of those ships requires hundreds of kilometers of standoff distance from any fixed installation.
Unlike the purely civilian Corona Astra, Freedom Station is a military facility first. It houses major training facilities, fleet berthing and resupply, and a Marine Bomb Disposal team among other military assets. That said, it's not a locked-down fortress — the station has a promenade and a shopping district that see plenty of civilian foot traffic. Military families live here, officers go on leave here, and it has the kind of restaurants and shops that cater to people with disposable income and irregular schedules.
The station's name echoes through League history. Freedom Colony was humanity's first settlement on Mars, established in 2068. That colony became the seed from which the Perseverance Fleet was built, and ultimately the foundation of the League itself. The original Freedom Colony modules are preserved on the surface of Calysto as a museum. Naming the capital system's primary military station after that colony ties the League's military identity to its origins as a group of refugees who chose to run rather than surrender.
